In line with the government massive job generations and skills development program, the Department of Public Works and Highways in Davao in cooperation with the Technology Education and Skills Development Authority opens a Training Center for Heavy Equipment Operation in Davao City.
DPWH Secretary Hermogenes E. Ebdane Jr. said that the opening of the new DPWH Heavy Equipment Training Center is part of the department's Comprehensive Livelihood and Emergency Employment Program or CLEEP of the government.
" This is included in the Memorandum of Understanding between the DPWH, DOLE and TESDA which aims not only to provide employment opportunities among the unemployed but also provide free skills development to train them with the needed manpower requirements in the construction industry locally and abroad" Ebdane said.
Among the courses offered are Forklift Operator, wheel Loader Operator and Hydraulic Excavator. The training period will be 156 hours or 20 days mostly done in hands on training.
During its launching, the DPWH Heavy Equipment Training Center had accepted a total of 70 out-of-school youths among which are also given a scholarship grant of P15,000 pesos and allowance of P 60.00 per day under the Pangulong Gloria Scholarship Program of TESDA.
Among the resource persons and assessors of the training course are heavy equipment specialists of the DPWH 11th Regional Equipment and Area Service in Tagum City under regional Equipment Engineer Lorenzo Yumang.
The classes started last July 13, 2009 and will end on August 4, 2009. In coordination with the DOLE, TESDA had guaranteed fifty percent of the graduates will be hired within six months, Yumang said.
