DPWH Undersecretary Rafael Yabut, in charge of Visayas operations said that to assure road safety and round-the-clock transport of goods and basic services, the repair of Calbiga-Tacloban Road is now 61% complete.
The project involves the rehabilitation of the damage road section along the 55.7 kilometers of Calbiga-Tacloban Road.
The P 50 Million repair works programmed for 2009 includes 5 kilometers of asphalt road and damaged slope protection works.
Meanwhile, DPWH Region VIII Director Angelito Twaño said that the project still require a total estimated amount of P 100 Million for the repair/rehabilitation of carriageway and the construction of slope protection structures.
"The total rehabilitation of Calbiga-Tacloban Road will provide an access to the remote areas and will enhance economic activities resulting in the improvement of families benefiting from the project, and it will ensure safety of the travellers and properties of the travelling public" Twaño said.
