More than 3,000 students and career guidance counselors gathered Friday in Cebu for a campus lecture on decent work and career guidance aimed at introducing students and new entrants to the labor force to the world of work and how they can find employment after graduation. Labor and Employment Secretary Marianito D. Roque said the event will mark the final stop of the "Balik Tanaw, Bagong Pananaw" Diamond Lecture Series of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) held at the Cebu Doctors University Auditorium. "Marangal na Trabaho, Ano Ba Yun?" is the theme for this leg of the Diamond Lecture Series which is part of the year-long celebration of the 75th anniversary of DOLE. Roque said the lecture series is the first nationwide campus tour of DOLE that educates students on decent work and what the world of work is all about and also on how the DOLE played its role in facilitating the employment of Filipino workers, locally and overseas over the past 75 years. Decent work is all about equal opportunities for men and women to find work that is productive, in conditions of freedom, equity, security and human dignity. With the lecture series, the DOLE goes to campuses all over the country, teaching students not only about the milestones of DOLE but also on what decent work is and what they can expect when they enter the world of work. "We want the future workforce to know what decent work is to help prepare them face the challenges of the world of work," Roque said. The Diamond Lecture Series will also showcase the Jobsolutely DOLE career and job fair, career talks, meetings of the Regional Tripartite Industrial Peace Council (RTIPC) and the Decent Work media forum. Jobsolutely DOLE will feature a job fair for local employment. The series of career talks, which will feature top human resource executives in Cebu, will provide tips to graduating students on resume writing, working abroad, and how to survive their first 90 days at work. Meanwhile, the RTIPC will meet to agree on a decent work plan for Region 7 (Central Visayas). While the media forum will orient the members of the press on the activities of the DOLE related to decent work and its More than Jobs campaign. The Diamond Lecture Series is being supported by Globe Telecom, Jobstreet.com and Filipiniana.net. Official media sponsor is Amerika Atbp. |
