GMA visits ICTSI Syrian terminal

Philippine president visits ICTSI Syrian unit

 

 President Gloria Macapagal - Arroyo visited yesterday the Tartous International Container Terminal (TICT) in Tartous, Syria, making her the first Philippine President to visit the Port of Tartous.   

 

Run by Philippine port operator International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI), TICT is the first investment of a Philippine company in the Syrian maritime sector.

 

During the visit, the president unveiled a marker commemorating her visit to TICT, and the strengthening of economic ties between the Syria and the Philippines through the investment of ICTSI in TICT.

 

The visit was the president's last activity during her two-day state visit to Syria.

 

The president and her delegation were met by Dr. Attef Nadaf, Tartous governor; Zaki Najeeb, Tartous Port General Company (TPGC) general manager; Enrique K. Razon Jr., ICTSI chairman and president; Francis Andrews, ICTSI regional manager for Europe and Middle East; and Romeo Salvador, TICT chief executive officer and general manager; Abdul Kader Sabra, chairman of the Tartous shipping chamber; and Bassam Abu Asali of TPGC.
