SMUGGLED SEA TURTLES, BLACK CORALS AT THE PORT OF MANILA

Bureau of Customs Deputy Commissioner for Enforcement Group Horacio P. Suansing turns over on May 24, 2011 seized black corals, turtles, and other marine resources worth P 35 million to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) thru Director Theresa Mundita S. Lim of the Protected Areas and Wildlife Bureau and to the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) thru Edwin Alesna (extreme right), CITES Specialist, as Customs Police Director Nestorio Gualberto looks on. The seized wildlife contraband included 161 head of preserved hawksbill and green turtles, nearly 21,000 pieces of black corals, more than 7,300 pieces of seahells, and 196 kgs. of sea whips.
